Elsie's Corner - Where Creativity and Intelligence Meet
Tell us about yourself.
Hello everyone! We are two public school
teachers (and cousins), working in New York City.
My name is Lori; I started my teaching career in 1995 as a
middle school English teacher. In 2005, I transitioned to elementary
school and taught all subject areas in both a general and special education
setting. In 2014, I embarked on my career as a Reading Intervention
teacher in order to assist and instruct struggling readers. My part in
Elsie’s Corner is primarily creating the academic content of each product.
My name is Anthony; I started my teaching career in 2012 as a
High School Social Studies teacher. In my first year of teaching, I proved to
many of the administrators that I was very good in the technology field. By
2013 I had already been given a full schedule of Video Production and Graphic
Design classes. My part in Elsie’s Corner is to take what cousin Lori creates
and design the product so that it comes to life. In addition, I create
marketing content for social media promotion.
What do you like best about
teaching?
We love being intellectual entertainers! Taking rigorous
academic content, twisting, turning, and molding it into something that is
relatable and engaging for youngsters is very rewarding.
Describe your favorite TpT
product.
Although it is difficult to choose; we’d have to say our Book
Report LapBook. This little worm has wriggled his way into countless
classrooms and judging by the feedback we’ve received, students and teachers
just love him! Our Bookworm Lapbook gives students an opportunity to show
off their comprehension and analysis of any book. The many interactive
foldables included are a fun way for students to display their knowledge and
present their book using their individual creativity.
What advice would you give to
someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?
Slow and steady wins the race. It’s easy to get caught
up with the mind-blowing statistics of the teachers who have become
millionaires. But for us, it’s all about taking the time (and it does
take TIME!) to create products that we love and are proud off. Each of
our products are our “babies”. We take the time to nurture and develop
them before we put them on the TpT shelf. Sometimes it takes months
before a product is ready to go, and that’s okay with us. In the end, we’re far
more concerned with quality over quantity.
What have you done or hope to
do with your TpT earnings?
Lori: For now, I am using the
money to assist in the renovations to my home. One day, I’d like to say
that TpT allowed me to live in my dream home!
Anthony: I’ve been putting my
TpT savings away into investments for the future. So far, I haven’t spent a
dollar of the earnings.
What do you like best about
being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?
We are looking forward to
having the opportunity to collaborate with the other members of TBOTEMC.
Although going onto the site as a newbie can be a bit overwhelming, after only
a few days we are starting to understand what we have to do to get the most out
of being a member!
