Featured seller - Renee Heiss

Tell us about yourself.

I am a retired Family Consumer Sciences teacher who now spends much of my time creating teaching aids, sewing for charity, and writing books for families.  I have been married for 45 years, have three grown daughters and seven not-so-grown grandchildren.

What do you like best about teaching?

When I was still in the classroom, enjoyed watching the students mature in their knowledge of my Child Development class from September to June.  I would get some of the students in the second level and see them grow even more.  Very rewarding!

Describe your favorite TpT product.

My favorite TpT product is Chef Cappy’s Kitchen – STEM facts and healthy recipes for family fun – Holiday Favorites edition.  It is a collection of recipes for both secular and religious holidays that incorporates STEM facts.  The recipe directions are arranged by the age and ability of the family members to participate.

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?

I have been selling for over five years and the key to success is to keep producing.  The more you have in your “store,” the more choices you make available to prospective buyers.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?

I take most of my TpT earnings and “spend” it at Donors Choose to support teachers who need resources that are not digital.  It’s a wonderful system and I feel like I have my own little philanthropy going on here.  The other part of the earnings go into marketing – not my favorite way to spend the earnings, but a necessary evil!

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?

I like the exposure that I’m getting for my store that I haven’t gotten in the first five years of my participation.  The moderators are very supportive.

Featured Seller - Kathy Babineau

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Kathy Babineau.  I’m a speech language pathologist at an elementary school in Florida.  I work with students from Pre-K through Grade 6.  In “speech” we work on everything from vocabulary, to sentence formulation, to stuttering, to social skills, to articulation and everything in between!  I also create and sell products on TpT that are fun and useful for my own students.

What do you like best about teaching?

Being a speech language pathologist allows me to work with kids of all ages and to collaborate with teachers on all grade levels.  Each day is a new adventure and challenge!

Describe your favorite TpT product.

My favorite TpT product is “Following Directions All Year”.  It contains 50 different easy to use lessons that address following directions, vocabulary, attributes and concept terms.  The lessons are connected to seasonal themes and popular topics.  Teachers and SLPs love these activities because they are super low-prep, easy to use and the kids love them.  I have used these activities in small groups, large language groups and in whole-class lessons.  The activities are easy to differentiate if necessary.

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?

Think of what types of products are most helpful to you in your classroom.  Research the TpT website including the seller’s forums.  Ask questions, connect with other sellers and find your niche.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?

I’m currently using my earnings to pay off some bills that I have.  I hope to save more and take my family on a cruise!

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?

FEATURED SELLER: Caffeine & Curriculum with Bridget Riggs

Tell us about yourself.
Hello everyone.  My name is Bridget Riggs.  I teach 10th grade English in West Virginia where I have lived for a little over 16 years.  I have been married for 19 years to my husband, Chris, and we have 2 kids – Molly (age 11) and Brady (age 5).

I am a super organized, coffee-aholic who loves trying new ways of approaching topics in class.  I like incorporating current media trends into my lessons to keep them current and interesting for my students.  I started my TpT store about  2 years ago and recently, began blogging {My page is called Caffeine & Curriculum}.  This summer, I am planning on adding a YouTube channel to my repertoire as well.

What do you like best about teaching?
The best part of teaching is when everything you planned actually works the way you planned it.  LOL

Describe your favorite TpT product.
I have purchased many items from top 100 sellers that have worked well in my classroom.  I think one of my most favorite purchases was a Model UN Simulation from Nick Erskine.

I teach English – not social studies- and I do NOT even have a Model UN in my school.  I actually saw a movie in which some students were involved in the Model UN and went researching.

I like to include interactive, cross-curricular lessons in my classroom.  Nick’s product is for a simulation event that involved writing.  It inspired me to design Model UN based projects into my English class.

I created a real world series of projects for my sophomores that required them to choose a country from the UN members to represent throughout the year.  They then are responsible for being that country’s representative in debates, projects, and writing assignments.

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?
1)   Join collaborative groups on FB and Pinterest.  There is a ton of information out there about growing your store and it can be overwhelming.  These sites help you sort out the information and stay on focus.
2)   Quality over quantity.  It is easy to assume that the quicker you get items listed, the more money you will make.  You have to consider the reviews that you will get.  Research your competition and see what they offer.  Look at covers and previews.  Check prices of others to stay competitive and fair.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?
I have generally taken my profits and either purchased things for my TpT products or classroom.  This next year though, I am also saving up for additional conferences that I would like to attend.

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?
Each day I get emails of products from my peers.  It allows me to see what others are doing and help them get their products out there.  They do the same for me.  It also reminds me of my goals and inspires me daily.

Featured Seller- The Owl Teacher

Tell us about yourself.
Hi!  My name is Tammy DeShaw and I am the owner of the blog, The Owl Teacher.  I began teaching in 2004 and have been teaching ever since from grades 3rd to 5th.  I have a bachelor’s in Science and have nearly completed my masters in differentiation.

I have a wonderful and supportive husband, a 17 year old freshman college student, a 14 year old that is soon to be taking driver’s education, and twin toddlers!  Life is definitely interesting and BUSY at my house!

I love my family very much and spend each day trying to live for God.  My other hobbies include scrap booking, drawing, reading, and just having fun.  One thing you won’t see me doing is cooking.  I absolutely cannot stand to be in the kitchen.  I’d rather have a root canal.  However, I will bake my traditional sugar cookies every year for Christmas, despite my desire not to be in the kitchen.

What do you like best about teaching?
I love to create lessons that are hands on and fun for students.  The reason I create these types of lessons is because I strongly want students to not only learn, but become people who are passionate about learning.  There is so much information out there to explore.  I also enjoy spending time with children because they have such creativity and imaginations- something I fear a lot of adults lose with the normal day to day activities.

Describe your favorite TpT product.
My current favorite TpT Product is my Math Workshop Units.  I originally started as a seller of science products.  One day I wrote a blog series related to Math Workshop and had many requests for actual unit lesson plans.  I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it at first, because I was still trying to find myself as a TpT seller.  Then I felt a leading by God to give it a try and I began working on it.  I am absolutely in love with my finished product because I feel it is going to be helpful to anyone who is just trying out math workshop in their classroom.  My lessons are scripted out (though it is not necessary to follow them directly) and offer warm ups, mini-lessons, activities for independent math time, and closings.  This is a great opportunity for them to see how it works and focus on the more important things – such as getting each child where he or she needs to be academically.

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?
If someone wanted to become a seller at TpT, I would first congratulate them!  It’s a great first step!  Then I would recommend highly to not compare themselves to other sellers and to remember that each person’s journey is slow and different.  I would also advise him or her to do their best work that he or she enjoys, as that is what matters most.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?
I have only been working with TpT for a little over a year.  At the moment, my earnings have been going toward my bills.  Good ole’ college loans.  Eventually, I’d like to earn enough to buy a house, help pay my loans (and now my daughter’s) off and take a trip to Israel to see the Holy Land.

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?
I like the community feel and resources that are provided by TBOTEMC.  It’s definitely a value!

Featured Seller - Leigh Sanna @Kinder Actividades

Tell us about yourself.
I am a Kindergarten Spanish Classroom Teacher. I find it fun, challenging, and very rewarding! I love Spanish, cooking, and traveling.  When I’m not at school I spend lots of time with my many brothers and sisters (I’m one of 6)!

What do you like best about teaching?
I love seeing students excited to learn and succeed. When a Kindergartener is proud and brags to me “I can read this by myself”, it’s a wonderful moment.

Describe your favorite TpT product.
I love my Math Module Whole Group Assessments because they are the items I have created that have saved me SO much time. I can forgo the one-on-one interviews required by the EngageNY Math Modules and test whole-group! This lets me spend more time reviewing and teaching, and less time testing.

Step by step directions for whole group assessment and simple clear pages so that students can easily follow directions without working ahead!

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?
I’d say to post things that you find very useful in your classroom! If they are valuable and kid-tested, then others can benefit from your successes.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?
My earnings allow me to purchase other products that are great for my classroom. They also allow me to invest in clipart that can improve my own products. I’d love to be able to use my future TpT earnings to help fund some of my hobbies outside of my career.

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?
I love the resources available to me: training, tips, other professionals, others’ expertise, etc. Sharing experience and knowledge with other teachers and sellers is exciting and eye-opening.

Featured Seller - Brittany Washburn

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Brittany Washburn. I am a science and technology teacher at the elementary level. I am also a blogger and teacher author, wife, and Aunt. Check out my TpT Store and Blog to really get to know me.

What do you like best about teaching?
I LOVE developing great lessons. My classroom runs like a well-oiled machine. I strive to create lessons that are engaging and rigorous for every student. This gives me time to check in with individual students or small groups to build relationships with my 400+ students.

Describe your favorite TpT product.
The product I use most in my own classroom that I also have for sale in my store is my Technology I Can Statements. I use these I Can statements every single day. Not only are they colorful, in child-friendly language, and easy to use, but each statement can also be used as inspiration for a technology-enhanced activity. They are awesome!

What advice would you give to someone who may want to become a seller at Teachers Pay Teachers?
I think most teachers are driven to be successful (I like to call this gritty). If you are willing to put the time into learning and creating engaging resources then TpT can be a life-changing opportunity for you.

What have you done or hope to do with your TpT earnings?
TpT has been such a blessing in my life. I opened a store at a time in my life when I needed to keep myself busy. My husband and I have been trying to start a family since we were married nearly 6 years ago. My TpT earnings have gone to fertility treatments (procedures, surgery, medication, etc.). Even though we haven’t been successful conceiving, TpT has been my “child” emotionally as I have developed my store and watched it grow!

What do you like best about being a member of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative?
Teachers are sharing and caring individuals. I am thrilled to be part of The Best of Teacher Entrepreneurs Marketing Cooperative because it gives me a greater opportunity to learn from and share my resources with amazing teachers.
