• You will love this hands-on syllable activity for your preschool, pre-k, or kindergarten classroom. The syllable counting cards activity provides opportunities for syllable practice, syllable segmenting, and syllable counting fun.  This is a fun way to work on phonological awareness and early reading skills with your students. Perfect for your literacy centers, and assessments. Use as an independent, small group, or whole group activity.

This syllable counting activity is perfect for reinforcing phonemic awareness skills. Students will clap out the number of syllables for each picture and put it in the corresponding basket. This can be an independent or center activity. The syllable counting activity can b e self-checking if you choose to write in pencil, the number of syllables on the back of each card.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Alphabet Writing Video - Aa - Free!!”

Teach your students the right way to write their uppercase and lowercase letters with these engaging videos! These 5 minute long videos will have your students "reading" along with a catchy poem that will help them remember the way to properly write their letters!


HOW DO I USE THE VIDEO?
Just open it up and press play for your students! No prep needed!


HOW WILL THE VIDEO ENGAGE STUDENTS?
The video introduces students to the poems by having students echo read them. Then, the video also traces the letters (with a visual) while repeating the poem in order to provide students with a visual of how to write the letter. I always use this as the opportunity to have students “air write” the letter.

It also includes the famous, "Some letters are tall, some letters are small, some letters fall." and challenges students to figure out if the lowercase letter is small, tall, or if it falls! It then reviews the two poems for students.


HOW CAN I REINFORCE THE POEMS AFTER THE VIDEO?
Use any (or all) of these files:
• Alphabet Writing Practice for the Smartboard: After showing the video, I do some group practice on the smartboard using this file, having students take turns coming up and writing their letters while practicing the alphabet formation poem.
• Handwriting Book (with the poems!): Have students practice their letter formation with the poems right in front of them!
• Alphabet Writing/Formation Signs: I post our current poems on the board for the day, then place them in a binder afterwards for students to reference.

FREE MISC. LESSON - “Charity Proposal Bilingual Graphic Organizer (French or English)”

FREE Charity Proposal Presentation Graphic Organizer

This one-page graphic organizer is available in English, French with English instructions, or fully en français. My grade 8 team of Geography & Language teachers used it as part of a larger project which raised funds. Each class has a Town Hall meeting, where students presented the recipient they felt should be selected by the class to help in building their small businesses to support their family and their communities.

Kiva.org is the organization that we chose to donate to, and each student (or small groups of students) made a pitch regarding why the person they chose was the best choice. (They considered factors such as gender, quality of life in the country, industry, an evaluation of the rationale by the loan requestor, etc.)

Included you'll find a PDF version, a fully editable Word document version, and Ontario Expectations that connect to this activity for Language, and all French programs in the Ontario Curriculum. (It touches on some Geography expectations as well). Use that to help you select what you wish to assess, and to guide students in co-creating success criteria in class.

Les jeunes ont considéré des facteurs tels que le sexe, l'industrie, la qualité de vie de la région où se trouve le destinataire proposé, et une analyse critique des faits de la requête pour un prêt.)
