FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Reading Strategies Task Cards and Worksheet - Active Reading Model”

by Versatile Teacher Toolkit ESL and ELA Resources
8th - 11th Grade

These reading strategies task cards can be used to teach the active reading model reading strategy. There are four task cards that verbalize what students should ask while reading a text and 4 excerpts from novels, so students can practice the reading strategies with these short passages.
You will also find four Reading Strategies handouts that should be used with the four paragraphs on the task cards. The handouts contain questions students have to answer while reading each excerpt from the novels.
***2018 UPDATE: Reading strategies worksheets have been updated.
There is also a two-page-long reading strategies worksheet you can use with any other text (ideally not more than five paragraphs). Assign students a text to read and ask them to use the reading strategies worksheet to record their answers.
I appreciate your feedback as it helps me improve and create better resources.
