Reading Strategies; Grades K-3

Unique! Effective! Enjoyable! Easy to use! Kids love this activity because they get to move around, and it is actually a great way to develop the important reading strategy of sequencing events. There is a physicality to it that helps children who have difficulty conceptualizing events in time. The set includes 28 correctly numbered events from Strega Nona in both Numbered and Unnumbered formats. Starred* events can be eliminated, depending on class size.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Common Core Literature 8th Grade Standards Progress Report”

by James Whitaker
8th Grade

8th Grade Common Core ELA Standards
Literature Progress Report

by James D. Whitaker

Product/Materials Preface [Grades 8]

This freebie is a single page Progress Report Form for the 8th Grade Literature Standards for the Nationwide Common Core ELA Learning Standards. There is one gray scale form and one version with bright blue shading. You can use these stylish forms as a way to record your students’ progress—both strengths and weaknesses for each of the literature standards.

This is NOT a checklist but rather a way to record the dates of when a particular standard was assessed and how your student faired at that moment in time. Simply enter the date of when you assessed the strand. If your student did not do well with the topic earlier in the year—assess it again at a later date and record that date in the corresponding matrix. You can assess the standard over and over if you use a liberal size penmanship. You can now easily track any student’s progress over the course of the year!

Remember you should not assess all the standards at the same time. The standards were meant to be covered over the course of 8th grade! Assess what you have taught to gauge what you need to reteach or reiterate.

Please feel free to ask any questions—
I will definitely respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion.

Please, check out my other products and resources: SophistThoughts™

Hopefully my products will help strengthen your lessons, help your students learn, and make your life easier. Thank you and enjoy! J.D. Whitaker
