Compare and contrast information about these two famous presidents. This resource will reveal fascinating facts about Lincoln and Washington. I enjoyed researching these 2 amazing individuals
and learned so much in the process of doing so. The task cards cover their lives from childhood to
their presidency (in Washington's case, a little after his presidency). Students will learn about their
boyhoods, their lives on the "farm" (sustenance vs. plantation), their teenage years, their young adult lives, their values and humanity, their pets, their jobs/careers, their schooling, their families, and much, much more!

Be sure to visit my facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/mathmargosmore/) for the daily
Lincoln/Washington quiz. Test your knowledge about these great men. All info is drawn from this product https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Compare-and-Contrast-George-Washington-Abe-Lincoln-Venn-Task-Cards-3613439.

By Scipi - Science and Math
Math; Grades 4-7

This seven page handout has 11 ways to practice recognizing fractional parts, naming equivalent fractions, identifying basic percents (25%, 50%, 75% 100%), and reducing fractions to lowest terms. It is a fun and engaging way to practice math and keep the students actively involved. Specific words are given. If each fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is created. Each group of new words becomes a snow riddle or answer.

ELA; Grades K-2

Winter Word Match is an activity in which students will practice their winter vocabulary while matching words to their picture. Five different sets are included: animals, clothes/ food, snow, time, and outdoor fun. Assessments are included.

By Sndyer Classroom
Math; Grades 4-6

Engage your students with these self-checking QR code multiplying decimals worksheets, and students love checking their work on their devices. Includes 6 worksheets with a total of 48 multiplying decimals problems. Each problem also has a grid box in which to solve the problem and an accompanying QR code that reveals the answer. QR codes allow students to self-check their work.

ELA/Writing; Grades 7-10

This four-passage text set is accompanied by an argumentative prompt regarding the topic of cell phones in the classroom. It's a perfect assignment to engage typically students of all ability levels due to the interesting topic. It will also strengthen your students experience with the idea of using the text to support their writing, rather than their own personal experiences.  Modeled after AIR Testing, which is used in numerous states across the country, it would also fit well into a PARCC simulation. The text set, itself, is 7 pages long.

ELA/Writing; Grades 3-12

With over 20 compliments and 15 improvement suggestions, the conference card will help guide what to say during a writing conference with your students! Just like when you scaffold and model the requirements for an essay in a mini-lesson, you do the same thing individually for each student through conferencing. Conferencing will help you deliver differentiated instruction.

Introducing research or are your students old pros? Regardless, this is a great activity for kids to use for researching the executive branch for President's Day! Your students will have 10 questions to research about a president that they choose or you assign. The answers can be written on the copy of the cards that they are given (you can even shrink them down to fit both pages on one copy!) or record them on notebook paper. Use this activity in a research center for purposeful practice! Enjoy!

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Comprehension, Thinking & Writing Lessons: The House of Comprehension (Preview)”

by Connie
6th - 9th Grade

The House of Comprehension is the best tool for English Language Arts teachers in grades 6-9 to help their students learn to understand structure in literature. The program in the book offers educators a complete solution that helps students learn how each element of literature adds depth to a story and further increases students’ enjoyment of reading.
How does The House of Comprehension benefit teachers?
• Forty complete student activities for teaching the importance of every element of literature: character, plot/conflict, setting, theme, symbols, point of view, and tone
• Step-by-step instructions for each activity
• Printable activity sheets for students
• Each activity aligned with Common Core Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language standards
• Timing of Activities chart shows where each lesson works best during the study of a fiction or narrative non-fiction piece
• Two planning charts, Unit Structure and Activities Plan, address the Who, What, When, Why, and How for each lesson
• Engaging lessons that work for both proficient and non-proficient students
What is the focus of The House of Comprehension program?
• To promote comprehension of literature
• To instill inductive, deductive, critical, analytic, and creative thinking skills orally and in writing
• To communicate specific objectives, assessments, and outcomes
• To reinforce previously learned concepts
• To reach every type of learner: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic
• To insure that students are active intellectual participants in their education
• To teach through activities that are inspiring, interactive, and evocative.
To introduce you to the The House of Comprehension program, I invite you to download this preview. Also, please check out the quality of the lessons and activities in "The House of Comprehension" by downloading these Freebies that I offer in my store -
“The Ten-Sentence Format,” my Primary Free Product, forms the writing backbone of the ELA class. It works whenever a teacher wants students to write about literature for warm-ups, lesson closure, quick comprehension checks, or short answer essays on tests.
and,
Writing - "Just Say NO to Dull Writing,"
Writing - "Just Say, 'NO!' to Dull Writing", a list of words and phrases with reinforcing activities to make their pieces stronger and more effective.
This teachers' resource has been received very favorably by teachers and administrators alike, with a Profile piece in "Northern Virginia Magazine" (November 2013) "Warding off the Wolves"
http://www.northernvirginiamag.com/entertainment/faces/2013/11/30/warding-off-the-wolves/, and on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/House-Comprehension-Grades-6-9/dp/1938406176.
Dr. Robert William’s, a professor at Radford University, VA, reviewed this book in the "Virginia English Journal" (The Virginia English Journal, Vol. 63, Number 2 Fall 2013/Winter 2014 pgs 71-75) -
"Casserly does an excellent job of collecting and creating and organizing activities coherently, many of which will serve perfectly as scaffolding upon which student comprehension can be built…"
“The text is filled with highly useful activities, and insights into how teachers can motivate and engage with learners as readers, while satisfying … administration’s call for documentation.”
“Constance Casserly’s The House of Comprehension: Teaching Students the Elements of Literature should probably be on most language arts teachers’ bookshelves…”
Through this practical and flexible program, students learn the importance of every element of literature. They recognize that the story and the elements create a complete whole by working together. Incorporating each of these factors into the study of any piece of literature enables students to explain, orally and in writing, whether the story creates a house of straw, of twigs, or of bricks

FREE SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON - “U.S. Presidents Report - SS/History Assignment”

by The Teacher down the Hall
5th - 8th Grade

After a study of U.S. history or U.S presidents, this is a great way to have students show what they've learned about our presidents. Each student researches and reports on a different president, illustrates his president, and could even complete an oral report. It was a fun way to wrap up our year in 5th grade SS, and the products made a great bulletin board. My students loved this assignment!
