FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Blackout Poetry: Creative Poetry Activity for any Poetry Unit”

by Spark Creativity
7th - 10th Grade

Blackout poetry is such an easy way to take the fear factor out of writing poetry. Instead of staring at a blank page, students get to choose the words they want from a page that is already full. Less pressure = more creativity!
You've probably seen the striking final product of blackout poetry assignments around Instagram and Pinterest. With their writer's block is out of the way, students can use the blackout poetry form to create powerful poetic AND visual images. They will amaze themselves and each other with their beautiful poetry and final results.
This activity makes a great hook or supplemental activity for any poetry unit. It also leads to an AWESOME display!
The instructions are simple, and they are laid out step-by-step with photo examples of each in this assignment.
