FREE MISC. LESSON - “Font Freebie: Broadway Flair (All Caps)”

This font freebie is a True Type Font and is available in CAPS only. You will get capital letters if you type the lowercase or uppercase keys. There are no added characters (period, comma, etc.) It looks best when used as a headline or title (in a large size).

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Scholastic Book Order Fun”

A fun activity to use with the monthly Scholastic Book Order Form. Helps with book sales too! I use this as a Word Work/Literacy Center or it can be used as a whole group activity when placed under the document camera. Great for Sub Plans! Have students complete this activity in their own notebooks or on lined paper (no copies needed!). Great for multiple grade levels. My first graders LOVE it!

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Buddy Reading Discussion Cards”

I made these little cards to help keep my "buddies" engaged in meaningful conversations while partner reading. I copied mine front to back on colored cardstock, laminated, chopped, hole-punched in the corner, and made little rings of questions that buddies can easily grab.

I teach my kids a pattern for buddy reading -
Partner A reads a page while B listens and follows along.
Partner B asks A a question from the ring.
Partner B reads a page while A listens.
Partner A asks B a question from the ring.

It seems to help both partners stay on task even if the other one is reading.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “Brave New World Analysis Questions p. 3-56”

These questions are all designed to assist students in getting the most out of a single reading of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. All questions place a special emphasis on higher order thinking, as well as College Board’s AP literature expectations in regards to making inferences, understanding irony, and in general a rather rigorous, college-level approach to literature. These materials can be used for Honors classes as well, for any teacher looking to give their students the kind of push that the new Common Core standards are aiming for.

I have been teaching for 16 years, including several years teaching English Honors IV, as well as creating my own very successful Advanced Placement Literature program from scratch nine years ago. I have a Masters in Creative Writing, and thought I would make some of my materials available for purchase.

All questions were written using the Harper Perennial Modern Classics paperback copy of Brave New World. They could easily be adapted to other versions, however, the accompanying page numbers would need some altering.

These questions are also designed to be used in conjunction with a Brave New World test. This test includes 50 multiple choice questions based on these analysis questions, as well as an essay question designed to assess students’ overall understanding of Huxley’s satire.

Finally, consider looking into the complete novel package. It includes all background materials, four quizzes, over 100+ analysis questions and the test. Check out the description for more info.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “CVC Puzzles”

Are you looking for a fun way to help your students decode and blend cvc words?

These puzzles are a great hands on activity that allows your students to build their own words.

• Includes 15 puzzles each with 3 pieces.

• All vowels and consonants are included

These puzzles look great when printed on colored card stock or colored paper!

Using colored paper helps your students to see the changes in the words visually too!

Simply print out all the pages (note: colored paper makes them really pop!) and then cut out all three parts of each puzzle.

Next, allow your students to mix and match while they practice decoding CVC words.

An engaging way to practicing blending sounds!

Add an extra dynamic by discussing whether the words are real words, or nonsense words!
