FREE MATH LESSON - “Calendar Set - November - Turkeys”

by Key to Kinders
Pre-Kindergarten - 6th Grade

104 Calendar pieces for your November pocket chart. Size of daily pieces are 2.5 x 3 inches and will fit standard Calendar pocket charts.

There are 2 sets of calendar pieces included to use in any pattern you'd like to create. On our daily Calendar page, my students draw the corresponding pictures along with the date. I give them brown and red crayons to use and by the end of the month, their calendar looks great!

I have also included medallions for holidays and special days. You can tape the medallion to the upper left or lower right corner of the calendar piece. When the month is done, store them with the other pieces so that next year you can change the dates when you re-use them.

Also, there are extra clipart pieces to make a master pattern for your students to follow.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “FREE! Make poetry fun with this great FREEBIE! FREE!”

by Laura Randazzo
5th - 12th Grade

Take a look at this visually dynamic way to get your students excited about poetry. No, really. View this 27-slide Prezi and imagine all of the possibilities that your students could create.

All you’ll need to fill an entire class session is this Prezi (you don’t need any special equipment or software to use Prezi – if your computer can view a YouTube video, then you can enjoy a Prezi), dark markers, and a few newspaper pages or photocopies of a few pages from any novel you’re currently teaching.

Click HERE to view the full Prezi (no download needed), ready to present to your class

A dazzling alternative to Powerpoint, Prezi allows presenters to “zoom” to their next slide and the modern design captivates a teen audience. Students love the Prezi style and beg me all the time to make more of them. You can also check out Prezi for free at www.prezi.com. Prezis run on both SMARTBoards and regular classroom computers with projectors.

Note: Due to the “zoom” animations, this zip file is large. If you download it from here, the process will take a few minutes, so please be patient. When you get the folder, open it and launch the “Prezi.” Just ignore the other items; they’re needed to run the show. Your computer will ask if you want to “open” the web-created file. No worries; there’s no virus, so just open and enjoy. For full-screen viewing, be sure to click on the small icon in the lower right-hand corner (just like on YouTube).

This product includes detailed steps for students to follow and inspiring examples from: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling; Paper Towns by John Green; The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Age-appropriate for every audience.

I hope you enjoy this fresh approach to lecturing that’s sure to keep your students’ attention. If you like this product, please leave me some feedback. I look forward to hearing from you!

This item is part of my full, 4-week poetry unit. Click HERE to check out my money-saving poetry lesson bundle.

FREE LANGUAGE ARTS LESSON - “FREE Persuasive Language Worksheets”

by Stacey Lloyd
7th - 10th Grade

By the time students get to middle school, or even high school, they usually know the names of persuasive language techniques. However, they still need to practice identifying and explaining them in use. These FREE worksheets will help facilitate that process.

Contents:

20 Techniques of Persuasive Language: This one-page informational handout covers twenty common techniques of persuasion found in advertising, propaganda and persuasive speeches and writing. It is useful for revision and for students to keep in their notebooks.

Identifying Persuasive Techniques in Advertising: This worksheet puts students’ knowledge of persuasive language to the test by requiring them to identify how techniques are used in extracts from advertisements. This is a great way for students to see the ‘everyday’ usage of these concepts.

Identifying Persuasive Techniques in a Political Speech: This worksheet focuses on an extract from Winston Churchill’s speech “Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat”. Students are required to read the extract and then complete the table, identifying the effects of the different techniques.

Using Persuasive Techniques: This worksheet requires students to put their knowledge into action by writing their own persuasive sentences with the use of persuasive language techniques.

*Answer Keys included where necessary.*
