With Columbus Day being the second Monday in October - this is the perfect activity to use with you middle elementary students to learn about Columbus - who he is, what he did, and why we celebrate this holiday.

Both sections have kid friendly websites linked at the top for students to research. Simply print off the PDF, and have students use the class devices (or computers in the lab) to read the information and answer the questions.

Students will read through 4 facts and decide which is the decoy trying to trick them. They will shade the decoy! They will then be asked to Expose the Truth! by writing a statement that fixes and explains the decoy. For example: A carnivore eats meat, not meat and plants.

There may be facts that the students haven't learned in their class notes. This is just an opportunity for students to research and figure out as they are working. I usually allow an ipad during an activity like this for students to do scientific research when they get stumped.
