Specific words are provided, and the students are to figure out the correct fractional part of each particular word. (Example: The first 1/3 of LEDGER which would be LE.) If the fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is formed. Each group of new words becomes a Halloween riddle or an answer to a riddle.

Sentence to Picture Match: Halloween is a reading comprehension activity created to be used at centers or in small groups. Students will read each sentence and match it to the picture it describes. Assessment, ESL, EFL, and ELL

If you have a student who sounds like a good reader but does not seem to understand what is read, retelling is a good strategy that will give you insight into the student's thinking process. It is almost prep-free! Two RETELLING PROFILES, one for fiction, one for non-fiction, are included. They are very useful tools to evaluate comprehension processes of your students. A short, student self-evaluation form for retelling is also included.
