FREE MATH LESSON - “Free Division With Area Models and Partial Quotient Cut & Paste”

by Ashleigh
4th - 5th Grade

This free division resource is great practice for dividing with the distributive property or place value, area models, and partial quotient.

I recommend using this activity after you’ve introduced division with place value, area models, and partial quotient. It is not necessary for students to have completely mastered all three strategies, but they should be familiar with all three.

How to Complete the Lesson

•Give students a copy of page 2 and 3. Do not copy them back-to-back, because students will cut out the cards on page 3.

•Have students read the division situation and find the three cards that correctly show how to solve the division problem. All problems have a divisor of six to require students to look at all parts of each problem.

•Students should glue each representation in the correct location on the table.

•While it is not required, I have my students write the quotient for each problem underneath the division situation.

•Use page 4 as the answer key.
