My picture book Seeing SYMMETRY has a myriad of colorful examples from animal bodies to quilt blocks to kaleidoscopes to cowboy boots. This all-original packet has ideas for introducing the book plus a search activity for symmetrical images within the book’s pages. Additional options are to draw the missing half of a tiger or triceratops, make Mexican paper banners (papel picado), and use the enclosed square or round template to draw designs with line or rotational symmetry. Symmetry is a great way to visualize math concepts such as halves vs. wholes, equality, repeats, transformations, and much more.

These activities align with the Common Core Math Standard for 4th Grade Geometry:
CCSS.Math.Content.4.G.A.3: Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
