Pre-Kindergarten - 1st Grade
This is a part of one of the activities found in The Adventures of Miss Twiggie,
Chapter One, Meet Miss Twiggie.
The story is basically a Rebus story (picture words), but it does come in 3 formats
(2 formats are Rebus and one is non-Rebus). These formats are a constant in each
new chapter. The teacher or student can choose any or all of the formats. Since
each format progresses in difficulty, it makes sense to start with the easiest and
move onto the next incremental format.
The three formats are:
Rebus storyboard (easiest-good for nonreaders)
Rebus printable booklet (intermediate- good for pre-reading)
Non Rebus printable booklet (most difficult- good for emergent readers)
The following pages are a fun art project. Students can cut out and glue various
leaves and/or feathers to make a “new outfit” for the plain Miss Twiggie. There are
blackline leaves and feathers for students who wish to add other colors or designs.
Just so you know, “Miss Twiggie” isn’t just for girls. She interacts with the animals
of the forest and another twig person, Pine Cone Pete.
