Halloween Fraction Riddles - Putting Fractions in Lowest Terms - 3.00

This math resource contains eight Halloween fraction riddles which provide students practice in identifying fractional parts in lowest terms as well as recognizing equivalent fractions. Specific words are provided, and the students are to figure out the correct fractional part of each particular word. If the fractional part is correctly identified, when the students write the fractional parts on the lines provided, a new word is formed. Each group of new words becomes a Halloween riddle.

These pages are for students to record information about fables, fairy tales, and folktales. They are hard for students to distinguish, so I made up a couple pages for them to record information on. The first page is for them to write the elements of each. The second page is for them to record books on. I give my students a book, they read it, look through the elements, decide whether it is a folktale, fairy tale, or fable, then record it on the second page. Enjoy!

FREE MATH LESSON - “Volume of Rectangular Prisms Activity 6.G.2”

In this NO-PREP activity, students will practice finding the volume of rectangular prisms. This worksheet is READY TO PRINT and is ready for your students!

In this activity, students will find the volume of six rectangular prisms. The dimensions of the prisms are rational numbers and students will have to multiply fractions on this worksheet.

When students have completed the problems, they will cut the problems apart and put the solutions in numerical order. Then, their problems can be checked by checking the order of the answers.

This activity can be completed individually or in pairs. Make sure these problems are appropriate for your students - download the preview and look at the thumbnails to see problem examples.

FREE - Fun with Short Stories - a new comparison chart

  

I have found that when students make comparisons using the short stories in their anthologies, four things happen:

1. The temptation to copy another student’s work (either in class or on the Internet!) is eliminated.

2. Students enjoy the amusing images that some of the comparisons bring into the assignment.

3. Learning increases because minds become stretched to the limits of their imagination.

4. Students may need to research the characteristics of the comparison item before beginning the assignment – a bonus objective met!

This comparison chart activity can be used with any grade, but is optimum for grades 3-8.

This is more than a comparison between two short stories - it forces the comparison between a character and a giraffe or a refrigerator! You'll be amazed at the creativity you'll see in your students' writing!
